WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – CALIFORNIA freshman Missy Franklin was named Pac-12 Women’s Swimmer of the Month for the month of the December, the Conference office announced Thursday.

Franklin, a Centennial, Colo. native, was the individual high-point scorer at the AT&T Winter Nationals in Knoxville, Tenn., Dec. 5-7, after winning both the 200 free and the 100 back and setting school records in the 200 and 500 free. Her 200 free time of 1:41.40 also set a meet record. She was a member of three winning and meet-record-setting relay teams and swam a season-best 22.16 in the 50 free, leading off the 200 free relay as Cal recorded their fastest time of the year in that event. Franklin anchored both the 400 medley relay and 400 free relay as Cal set meet records for both events with a time of 3:29.91 and 3:31.45, respectively. In addition, she helped the 800 free relay team set a meet record as well with a time of 6:59.11.

This is the first-career Swimmer of the Month honor for Franklin and the 11th overall for California, the most of any Pac-12 school since the award’s inception.
