Jan 22, 2014

TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona senior forward Jazmin Ponce was invited to attend tryouts for the Mexican National team taking place in Mexico City, Mexico.

If she makes it through tryouts, Ponce will be a part of the Mexican National team and travel to China to compete in an international tournament.

“It’s an amazing honor,” Ponce said. “Seeing the smiles on my family and friend’s faces makes me want to try even harder to make them proud.”

Ponce finished the 2013 season recording a total of 92 shot attempts, five assists, five game-winning goals and 10 goals. Ponce was named 2013 Pac-12 First-Team All-Conference, her second nod in as many seasons, as well as Pac-12 Second-Team by College Sports Madness at the conclusion of the 2013 season.

“We are very excited for Jazmin,” head coach Tony Amato said. “Playing at the international level is a great honor and I am happy she has this opportunity. I am confident she has the ability to make an impact at that level and I look forward to seeing her success with them. I know she will positively represent Arizona soccer and the Pac-12 Conference.”
