Gilmore Extends Streak, Beavers Fall to Washington

Apr 25, 2014

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Junior Dani Gilmore extended her hitting streak to nine-consecutive games, but the Oregon State softball team could not overcome No. 11 Washington Friday afternoon, as the Huskies took a 6-2 victory in a game called after six innings due to weather.

Gilmore’s streak is the longest by a Beaver this season, as well as the longest of her career. She finished the day 1-for-3 with a double. Freshman Amee Aarhus hit her first career double in the contest, while fellow freshman Alexis Gonzalez went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Junior Kori Nishitomi ended the afternoon 1-for-2 with a run and a walk, while CJ Chirichigno tallied a hit and Ya Garcia recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

The Huskies (26-12, 6-8 Pac-12) looked like they might get on the board first, when they put a runner in scoring position in the top of the first, but Nishitomi made a nice throw from left field to get the runner at the plate and end the inning. Oregon State (13-27, 3-14) capitalized on its opportunity in the bottom of the frame. Nishitomi started things off with a walk, before stealing second. Gonzalez then brought her home with a single to give OSU a 1-0 lead.

The Huskies proceeded to take control with five runs in the fourth, and one run in the fifth. The Beavers pulled one back in the bottom of the fifth, as Garcia brought Aarhus home with a sacrifice fly. The Beavers could not come any closer, however, as the game was ended after six innings of play.

Oregon State and Washington will face off again tomorrow, with a game that will begin at 1 p.m.
