UCLA Multis Head to Pac-12 Championships
LOS ANGELES – On the heels of the dual meet against USC, championship season has officially started for the UCLA track and field team. The Bruins will send a group to Pullman, Wash., to open competition in the multi-event Pac-12 Championships at WSU’s Mooberry Track on Saturday, May 10, through Sunday, May 11. UCLA will also compete at the Oxy Invitational on Saturday.
Alexis Walker will lead a group of three Bruins this weekend to kick off the Pac-12 Championships. She is joined by Katherine Salcido and Monique Van. In her only complete heptathlon of her career, Walker compiled 5,409 points which ranks 21st in the country and first in the Pac-12.
The Pac-12 championships will get underway at Noon. At the Oxy Invitational, field events will begin at 11 a.m., while the action on the track will start at 2:20 p.m.
UCLA has five athletes ranked in the top-10 in their respective events entering the weekend. Leading the way is Julian Wruck in the discus with the second best throw in the nation at 213-3. Against USC, Mike Woepse popped the third best mark in the pole vault, clearing a personal best 18-5.25.
Kylie Price ranks sixth in the long jump with a leap of 21-1.25 while Nick Hartle still holds at eighth in the 800m with a 1:47.51. Nicholas Scarvelis threw a personal best 64-4.50 in the shot put against USC to rank 10th in the country. Overall the UCLA men’s team now ranks 12th in the latest USTFCCCA poll.
UCLA will return to Pullman next weekend to complete the Pac-12 Championships. The meet will continue on Saturday, May 17 and conclude on Sunday, May 18.
