KISS reps the Utah Utes

Jul 23, 2014

LOS ANGELES – The season might last from August to January, but college football really doesn’t stop. Whether it’s recruiting, spring practice or summer media days, there’s always something to do for a head coach. Football is on the mind all the time… even at a rock concert.

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham’s picture with KISS hit the Twitterverse last month and made headlines on national sites, mainly because the members of KISS flashed the “U” sign for the camera.

“I’m a classic rocker; anything pre-1980s is me,” Whittingham said Wednesday at Pac-12 Football Media Day. “I have a good friend who is hooked up fairly well and got me backstage passes.”

The tongue-waggers knew exactly what they were doing by holding up the “U,” too. When Whittingham asked KISS to do it, guitarist Paul Stanley asked, “You mean for the Utes?”

Next thing you know, Stanley and Gene Simmons will be rocking block “U” T-shirts to Rice-Eccles. (We hope.)
