Pac-12 announces women's soccer players of the week

Sep 15, 2014

SAN FRANCISCO - The Pac-12 Conference announced today the Women’s Soccer Players of the Week for the week of Sept. 8-14. ARIZONA STATE’s Cali Farquharson took home Offensive Player of the Week honors, while STANFORD’s Kendall Romine was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week and fellow Cardinal Jane Campbell was voted Goalkeeper of the Week.

Cali Farquharson (Phoenix, Ariz.) tallied five goals, one assist and 11 points as she helped ASU to a pair of 5-0 wins over New Mexico State and Nevada. The junior forward netted three-consecutive goals against the Wolfpack on Sunday in less than six minutes for her second-career hat trick, tying a school single-game record for goals scored. Against the Lobos on Friday, Farquharson had two of ASU’s five goals in the shutout, tacking on an assist in the 32nd minute for five total points in the game. It is Farquharson’s first-career weekly honor and the 20th overall for Arizona State.

Kendall Romine (Coto de Caza, Calif.) helped the Cardinal earn two more shutouts, extending their season-opening shutout streak to seven games, which ties a school record. The central defender anchored a line that limited No. 6 Florida to eight shots and held Dayton to just four. Romine also factored into the scoring against Dayton, scoring on a penalty kick for her first goal since 2011, and assisting on another goal when her long free kick was headed into the net. The weekly honor is the first of Romine’s career and the 41st for the Cardinal.

Jane Campbell (Kennesaw, Ga.) leads the nation with a 0.00 goals-against average after earning her fifth shutout of the season and combining with fellow goalkeeper Sarah Cox on another. After a 1-0 overtime victory against No. 6 Florida and an 8-0 rout of Dayton, Stanford is the only team in the country that has not allowed a goal all season. The sophomore’s highlight of the weekend was a full-extension save on a far upper-corner shot from the Gators, preserving the shutout and sending the match to overtime. The honor is the 42nd for Stanford and the third of Campbell’s career.

This week, both Arizona State and Stanford close out the non-conference slate, as the Sun Devils travel to play at CSU Northridge on Friday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. PT. The Cardinal hosts Santa Clara on Friday at 7:30 p.m. PT and Cal Poly on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 3:30 p.m., with the game against the Mustangs televised on Pac-12 Networks.
