Pac-12 announces women's soccer players of the week

Sep 22, 2014

SAN FRANCISCO - The Pac-12 Conference announced today the Women’s Soccer Players of the Week for the week of Sept. 15-21. CALIFORNIA’s Taylor Comeau was voted Offensive Player of the Week, while STANFORD’s Stephanie Amack was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week and UTAH’s Lindsey Luke was named Goalkeeper of the Week.

Taylor Comeau (Los Gatos, Calif.) turned in a career game against Pacific to lead Cal to a 3-0 victory, marking the team’s fifth shutout in nine games. The senior midfielder scored two goals in a single game for the first time in her tenure with the Golden Bears, recording three total shots. Comeau currently leads the squad with 15 points on six goals and three assists this season, including three game-winning goals. The honor is the first of Comeau’s career and the 28th overall for California.

Stephanie Amack (Pleasanton, Calif.) helped Stanford to its ninth-consecutive shutout, a new school record, as the Cardinal blanked Santa Clara, 3-0, and Cal Poly, 2-0. Amack anchored a defense that limited opponents to 12 shots on the weekend, while setting a Cardinal record for most shutout minutes with 852:12. The sophomore defender also contributed a goal, an assist and four shots on Friday in the win over Santa Clara. It is the first weekly honor of Amack’s career and the 43rd for the Cardinal. It is also the second-consecutive week that a Stanford student-athlete has received defensive player of the week honors, marking only the second time that two players from the same school have earned the accolade for two-straight weeks since the defensive award was added in 2012.

Lindsey Luke (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) tied a Pac-12 record with the fourth weekly award of her career, an honor only four other student-athletes have achieved. The junior recorded two shutouts for the Utes over intrastate opponents Utah State and Utah Valley as Utah finished the non-conference portion of its schedule with an undefeated record at 7-0-2. The 3-0 win over the Aggies and the 4-0 victory over the Wolverines gave Luke six blank sheets on the season and 19 for her career. Utah now has five overall weekly accolades since joining the Pac-12 in 2011.

All teams kick off the Conference slate this week, with Stanford traveling to Utah for its Pac-12 opener on Friday, Sept. 26 at 3 p.m. MT in a game to be televised live on Pac-12 Networks. California hits the road to play at Colorado on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. MT. For more information, including a complete schedule, visit www.pac-12.com
