Pac-12 football players of the week announced

SAN FRANCISCO - Quarterback Marcus Mariota of OREGON, linebacker Scooby Wright III of ARIZONA and kicker Zane Gonzalez of Arizona State have been named offensive, defensive and special teams Pac-12 Players of the Week in football.

Mariota, a junior from Honolulu, Hawaii, took the honor for the second-straight week after completing 19-of-30 passes for 258 yards and two touchdowns and adding 9 rushes for 85 yards (9.4 avg) and two more touchdowns to lead the Ducks to victory over Stanford, 45-16. Mariota quarterbacked the Oregon offense to 75-yard touchdown drives on each of its first three possessions and followed with another trio of consecutive touchdown drives at the end of the third quarter/start of the fourth quarter.  

Wright, a sophomore from Windsor, Calif., took the honor for the second-consecutive week after racking up a career-high 19 tackles and a career-best 4.5 tackles for loss, in the Wildcats 17-7 loss at UCLA. Wright also registered three sacks to match the career high he set in Arizona’s previous game at Washington State. He ranks fourth nationally with 12.1 tackles per game, second nationally with 2.3 TFLs per game, and second nationally with 1.50 sacks per game. 

Gonzalez, a sophomore from Deer Park, Texas, kicked the game-winning 36-yard field goal in overtime to secure Arizona State’s 19-16 win over Utah. Gonzalez made four-of-five field goal attempts in the win, including a 30-yarder that tied the game at 16 with less than six minutes remaining in regulation. His 13 points in the game pushed his season scoring average to 9.9, which ranks second in the Pac-12 and 14th in the nation.
