UCLA's Madison Tye honors late mother in Bruins' win over Wisconsin

Aug 30, 2015

Before Sunday's women's soccer matchup in Westwood between UCLA and Wisconsin, the two sides met to honor the late Dee Schmidt.

Schmidt's daughters, UCLA senior Madison Tye and Wisconsin sophomore Alexis Tye, took part in the pre-game ceremony which celebrated their mother's inspiring life. Schmidt's bright personality and fight against cancer became a source of motivation for both the Bruins and Badgers last season.

Following the Bruins' 2-1 win, Madison Tye joined JB Long and Tammy Blackburn of Pac-12 Networks to share her thoughts on the special day.

"Honestly, you can't really put it in to words," Madison Tye said. "The three of us were so close. To be able to share soccer with my sister and to remember my mom is pretty unforgettable and really, really special. I'm glad I got to share it with her soccer family and my soccer family. I'm really, really, really honored and blessed."
