Pac-12 announces women's soccer Players of the Week

Sep 1, 2015

SAN FRANCISCO - The Conference office announced today the Pac-12 Women's Soccer Players of the Week for action from Aug. 24-30. CALIFORNIA’s Celeste Boureille took home Offensive Player of the Week, while UCLA’s Gabbi Miranda was voted Defensive Player of the Week and OREGON STATE’s Bella Geist was tabbed Goalkeeper of the Week.

Boureille (San Francisco, Calif.) scored both goals in California's 2-0 victory over San Diego State on Aug. 29. She took six shots in total, four of which were on target. She nearly got herself a hat-trick but her shot was cleared off the line by a defender after she beat the goalkeeper. It is the first time the senior has won the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honor and Cal's 29th all-time weekly recognition.

Miranda (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) helped then-No. 12 UCLA to a 2-1 victory over then-No. 13 Wisconsin on Aug. 30. UCLA won a corner kick and executed a newly designed play to get Miranda a shot on goal. The junior defender's shot from 25 yards found the back of the net and gave UCLA an early 1-0 lead. Later in the first half, Miranda helped stop a goal by clearing Wisconsin's shot off the line. As a defensive unit, UCLA allowed only seven shots and surrendered one corner kick. This marks Miranda's first time earning Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week accolades. UCLA has now garnered 51 all-time weekly honors, the most in Conference history.

Geist (Milwaukie, Ore.) helped guide the Oregon State Beavers to a 2-0 week after beating Fresno State, 3-0, and San Francisco, 2-1. Geist posted her first shutout of the season and the fourth of her career. Over the two games, including extra time against San Francisco, Geist tallied eight saves while the visiting teams combined for 27 shots overall. It is the sophomore's first Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week honor and it is Oregon State's 15th all-time weekly honor.

This week, California heads East for a tough road trip against No. 4 North Carolina and No. 18 Duke. UCLA's weekend will be challenging as well. The Bruins welcome No. 1 Virginia and the Texas Longhorns to Westwood. Oregon State will head on the road to face Missouri and Kansas.
