Well how about this? Mammoth bones that are 10,000 years old have been found in one of Oregon State’s end zones at Reser Stadium as the facility undergoes renovations.

Good news for the folks in Tempe – Bruce Feldman also reports that new Arizona State offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey will stay with the Sun Devils instead of taking the Southern Miss head coaching gig. Oh and get this – Olympic gold medalist swimmer Michael Phelps will appear behind Arizona State’s “Curtain of Distraction” for Thursday night’s game against Oregon State.

Utah

Utah sophomore big man Jakob Poeltl was named the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week after averaging 21.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.5 assists on 60 percent shooting and 81 percent free throwing (that’s the big number) during the road sweep of the Washington schools. This honor comes on the heels of his third Pac-12 Player of the Week nod.

UCLA

Former UCLA Bruin Karch Kiraly was named the Pac-12 Men’s Volleyball Player of the Century. He led the Bruins to three national titles during his collegiate career.

Stanford

Stanford’s Akash Modi was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week, it was announced by the conference.

Arizona

Arizona men’s basketball coach Sean Miller says that the Wildcats need to bring top-flight effort to defeat Oregon in a huge game Thursday night in Tucson between ranked teams.

California

Connor Letourneau writes that Cal men’s basketball will try to solve its road woes at Utah Wednesday night. The Golden Bears are 13-0 at home but just 1-6 away from Berkeley this season.

Oregon

Tyson Alger of The Oregonian/OregonLive features Oregon basketball point guard Dylan Ennis, who is out for the season with a bad foot and will seek a sixth year of eligibility. The Villanova transfer has honed his coaching skills in the meantime, Alger tells us.

Washington

Heading down to SoCal this week, Washington men’s basketball knows that USC and UCLA will be out for revenge after the Dawgs swept ‘em on the first weekend of conference play. It ain’t gonna be an easy trip, that’s for sure – UCLA is 9-2 at home with wins over two ranked teams there and USC is 11-0 at Galen.
