Lim Leads Ducks at The Gallery

MARANA, Ariz. – Led by junior Thomas Lim, the Oregon men’s golf team finished the first round of NCAA Regional play in third overall at the par-72, 7,258-yard Gallery Golf Club Monday.

How It Happened: After hanging in the top five throughout most of the day, Oregon wrapped up the round with a 3-under 285 to sit two strokes back from UAB, who dropped in a combined six birdies over its final five holes to overtake the No. 2 spot from the Ducks. First-ranked Stanford leads the field after 18 at 14-under.

Consistent throughout his first round of the week, Thomas Lim was the low Duck after play wrapped up on Monday. The Moorpark, Calif., native converted three birdies to no bogeys to fire a 3-under 69 for his opening round and tie himself for seventh heading into moving day.

Teeing off on the 10th, Sulman Raza had an up-and-down go on the back nine, sinking two birdies, two bogeys and a double to get to the turn with a two-over 38; however, Raza would bounce back over his final nine, getting birdies on the third, fifth and sixth that would push the Ducks up the leaderboard and help the redshirt junior finish with a 1-under 71 for his first round.

Sophomore standout Aaron Wise started the day on a high note with an eagle on the par-5 11th. Two straight bogeys at the turn, however, would move Wise back to even par with eight holes to play. The Lake Elsinore, Calif., product responded with a pair of consecutive birdies on the fifth and sixth, but would double the par-4 eighth before wrapping up his first round with an even 72. Wise enters Tuesday’s action tied for 23rd.

Zach Foushee finished his first round with a 73 on Monday. Foushee, who also teed off on the 10th, ran into trouble on the back nine as well with one birdie, one bogey and one double bogey before the turn. After a pair of birdies on the first and third, the senior then bogeyed the par-4 eighth to get in at 1-over.

Freshman Edwin Yi carded a 3-over 75 to tie himself for 38th after 18 holes.

What It Means: Sitting in third overall after the first round of play in Tucson, Oregon holds a three stroke lead over sixth-place UC Riverside. With 36 holes to go, the Ducks will look to create some separation between themselves and the teams behind them to remain in that top five over the next two days and clinch a ticket back to Eugene to compete in the NCAA Championship for the third straight season.

Up Next: Paired with Stanford and UAB, the Ducks will tee off for their second round at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday.
