Asiata and Thomas Named Morris Trophy Winners

SAN FRANCISCO - Junior defensive end Solomon Thomas of Stanford and senior offensive guard Isaac Asiata of Utah have been named the 2017 Morris Trophy winners. 

It's truly a players award as the league's starting offensive linemen vote for the defensive lineman of the year, while the league's starting defensive linemen vote for the offensive lineman of the year.

Thomas led Stanford and ranked in the top five in the Pac-12 in sacks (7.0) and tackles for loss (13.0). Thomas also led the Cardinal with 36 solo tackles, and tied for the team lead with 55 total tackles.

Asiata earned second team All-Pac-12 honors after appearing in 928 snaps this season. He started all 12 games at left guard, and started all 38 games over the last three seasons. He scored a touchdown this season against USC after falling on a fumble in the end zone.

The award, which was first presented in 1980, is sponsored by Anthony's Restaurant and Athletic Awards of Seattle.
