Pac-12 announces Tennis Players of the Week

Pac-12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week: Evan Zhu, So., UCLA

Zhu won all five of his matches last week, which featured two wins in singles and three in doubles with teammate Martin Redlicki. The reigning Pac-12 Doubles Team of the Year helped No. 6 UCLA sweep Utah State and UC Davis, both by 4-0 decision.

The sophomore’s victory over Utah State’s Sergiu Bucur (6-4, 6-4) in the ITA Kick-Off final round sent UCLA to the ITA National Indoor Championships hosted on Feb. 16-19. Zhu also topped Lukas Moenter of Loyola Marymount (6-3, 6-2) earlier in the week.

At the No. 1 spot, the doubles pair defeated LMU’s Charles Boyce-Moenter (6-3), UC Davis’ David Goulak-Tommy Lam (6-3) and Utah State’s Jaime Barajas-Jose Carvajal (6-2).

The Irvine, Calif., native earns his second career Pac-12 Men’s Tennis Player of the Week award and UCLA’s 34th all-time weekly nod.

Pac-12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week: Stacey Fung, Jr., WASHINGTON

Fung helped Washington knock off No. 20 LSU, 4-3, last Saturday, collecting the Huskies’ clinching point with her singles victory.

At the No. 1 singles position, 6th-ranked Fung defeated LSU’s 47th-ranked Elyse Lavender in a three-set battle (6-7 (4), 7-6 (6), 6-4), improving to 10-3 overall this season. Fung teamed up with Alexis Prokopuik to top the LSU pair of Lavender and Luba Vasilyuk for a 6-3 victory.

Fung and Prokopuik picked up their second doubles wins of the week over Meible Chi and Hannah Zhao, 7-5, in Washington’s eventual 4-2 loss to No. 9 Duke on Sunday.

The Vancouver, Canada native was on her way to a win over Duke’s No. 7-ranked Samantha Harris, leading 4-2 before the dual match was decided.

Earns her first career Pac-12 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honor and 10th all-time for Washington.
