Pac-12 announces Tennis Players of the Week

Pac-12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week: Michaël Geerts, Sr., Arizona State (Antwerp, Belgium)

Geerts extended his singles win streak to six games this weekend helping the Sun Devils sweep the 70th Annual Blue Gray Tennis Classic besting Boise Stats, 4-0, Fresno State, 4-2, and No. 33 Alabama, 4-3. The senior collected three wins at the No. 1 singles position and added a doubles win on the top court.

Second on the team in game-clinching singles points, his victory over No. 113 Mazen Osama from Alabama clinched a Blue Gray Tennis Classic championship. Forced into a tiebreaking second set, Geerts claimed the win, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4, and was named tournament MVP.

Geerts paired up with Thomas Wright as the duo made quick work of Fresno State at the No. 1 Court on Saturday morning with a 6-3 victory to claim the doubles point for Arizona State.

Earns his first Pac-12 Tennis Player of the Week honor and ASU’s fifth all-time weekly award.

Pac-12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week: Michaela Bayerlova, Fr., Washington State (Krumbach, Germany)

Bayerlova went undefeated last weekend at the No. 1 singles position and the No. 3 double position to help WSU claim three team victories. The Cougars defeated Minnesota, 4-3, Seattle, 4-0, and Eastern Washington, 7-0.

All three matches were won in straight sets while only surrendering a total of 10 games. She improves to 16-0 in singles play during her freshman season, which is tied for the second longest winning streak in WSU history. She teamed up with Aneta Miksovska to sweep the double competition defeating Minnesota, 6-1, Seattle, 6-0 and Eastern Washington 6-0.

Bayerlova is currently ranked No. 34 in the ITA rankings and is the highest ranked Cougar since the 2012 season while also ranking  No. 634 in the WTA World Rankings.

Earns second career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor and Washington State’s third all-time weekly nod.
