Sports Illustrated

Happy sixth birthday, Pac-12 Networks! We've put 4,700 live events on our airwaves since launch on Aug. 15, 2012; that's quite the number.

Arizona

Check out this Sports Illustrated feature on Arizona quarterback Khalil Tate. A lot of good background info here on wanting to play tackle football when he was 3 with his big brother, being told too many times (for his liking) that he was an athlete and not a quarterback and being an honors student.

USC

USC linebacker Cameron Smith was named a first-team CBS Sports preseason All-American, it was announced Wednesday. You’d be happy to know that the Pac-12 has seven first-team selections, the most of any conference.

Stanford

Stanford men’s soccer was picked to win the Pac-12, it was announced Tuesday. Pretty much a formality (the preseason conference poll, that is), considering the Cardinal is the preseason No. 1 team in the nation (not to mention three-time defending national champs).

Washington

CBS Sports believes Washington is the Pac-12’s best shot at reaching the College Football Playoff for the third time in five years.

California

Cal quarterback Ross Bowers was named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list, it was announced Tuesday. Other Pac-12 QB’s on the list are Washington’s Jake Browning, Oregon’s Justin Herbert, Utah’s Tyler Huntley, Oregon State’s Jake Luton, Washington State’s Gardner Minshew, Colorado’s Steven Montez, Arizona’s Khalil Tate and Arizona State’s Manny Wilkins.

Arizona State

Arizona State men’s basketball released its nonconference schedule on Tuesday. The highlights include Mississippi State (Las Vegas), Nevada (Los Angeles) and Kansas, with the potential to play St. Mary’s in a second game in Las Vegas.

Colorado

Brian Howell whips up this piece on Colorado safety Aaron Maddox, a transfer from Pima Community College who Howell considers one of the best backups in camp.

Oregon

Andrew Greif shines the spotlight on the Oregon receiving corps. ‘Tis a group that is seen as a bit of a weak spot for the Ducks, but those dudes want to change your perception of ‘em.

Oregon State

In this latest Oregon State football practice report, Nick Daschel discusses the possibility of junior-college transfer Jack Colletto winning the starting quarterback job.

Utah

Kurt Kragthorpe features Utah offensive lineman Nick Ford, a redshirt freshman who is slated to start on at left guard for the Utes.

Washington State

Theo Lawson gives us his notes and observations from Washington State football practice on Tuesday. Gardner Minshew got the most QB reps, Lawson reports.

UCLA

Ben Bolch writes about the deaths of former UCLA men’s basketball stars Billy Knight and Tyler Honeycutt in his latest piece. Can’t say I knew either guy, but I crossed paths with Honeycutt a few times during our G League days, and I’ll never forget him dancing in warmups to the tune of “Return of the Mac” and how joyful and carefree he seemed in that moment before a Santa Cruz Warriors-Rio Grande Valley Vipers game five years ago.
