Roundup: Stanford's Catarina Macario named TopDrawerSoccer Player of the Year

Stanford

Stanford women’s soccer forward Catarina Macario was named TopDrawerSoccer Player of the Year, it was announced Tuesday. She is truly a special player.

Washington State

Washington State football coach Mike Leach is a finalist for the Munger Award, which goes to the top coach in college football. Also up for the award are Alabama’s Nick Saban, Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly, Syracuse’s Dino Babers, UAB’s Bill Clark and Army’s Jeff Monken (The Spokesman-Review).

USC

Joey Kaufman reports that USC football is hiring two new assistants. Former Bowling Green head coach Mike Jinks will be the running backs coach, while Boise State defensive line coach Chad Kauha’aha’a will do the same for the Trojans, per Kaufman and other reports.

UCLA

UCLA right tackle Justin Murphy was granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA on Monday, Ben Bolch reports. He’s had a history of knee injuries, so hopefully he can stay healthy in 2019.

California

Former Cal men’s basketball star Shareef Abdur-Rahim was named president of the G League Tuesday morning. Abdur-Rahim was the No. 3 pick of the 1996 NBA Draft out of Cal and played 12 years in the NBA. He has since held administrative positions around the NBA and G League, serving as assistant GM of the Sacramento Kings and GM of the Reno Bighorns.

Arizona State

Utah

Utah gymnastics is ranked fifth in the first poll of the season by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association, or WGCA for short. UCLA is No. 1, with Oklahoma No. 2, Florida No. 3 and LSU No. 4.

Washington

Adam Jude features Washington defensive back Myles Bryant, a Pasadena native who will be coming home to play in the Rose Bowl. He was actually born the day after the Rose Bowl in 1998 when Michigan narrowly held on to beat Washington State.

Arizona
