Get to Know Assistant Coach Geri Siudzinski Housewright

Aug 10, 2020

What is your favorite thing about Corvallis?
Besides the people, all the amazing things to do outdoors! Hiking, biking, fishing, being in the water, you can never be bored here!

What is your proudest moment as a coach?
Making the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history at Mississippi State when I was the Director of Operations… being in that room with the student-athletes and how excited they were, it was pretty cool to be a part of history.

What are your favorite hobbies outside of work?
Working out, spending time with my husband and cat, hiking, Crossfit, buying unnecessary things for my Jeep, catching up with my mom and dad, and hanging out and relaxing with friends.

What made you fall in love with the sport of soccer?
You can't win a game all on your own, the aspect of being a part of a team relates to everything in life and I love the lessons it teaches you on and off the field. Also, there isn't just one way to win a game, there are so many styles and coaching philosophies and they all can work, which makes learning and challenging yourself a constant.

Describe yourself as a player:
Ha, average… but really, I loved having the ball at my feet (which got me in trouble sometimes), I played center mid, I won most of the challenges in the air, and I was usually the leading assister, not a goal scorer. I lead by example on the field with fitness, captain my senior year.

Which club(s) do you support?
Chelsea, Go Blues!

What are you most looking forward to during the 2020 season?
Besides the uniqueness of conducting and being a part of season during a global pandemic…. Working with this awesome group of student-athletes we have. COVID-19 gave me months to connect and get closer with our student-athletes off the field, but I cannot wait to get back on the field to coach them and see what things we can achieve together!

What did you do to get through the COVID 19 lockdown?
I got married in April #CoronaWedding, LOTS of working out, learning how to cook more food, watched all MARVEL movies in chronological order, plenty of outdoors things with my husband, and FaceTimes with our players.
