Sep 10, 2020

TACOMA, Wash. - Former Ute standout Carly Nelson has signed a short-term contract with the OL Reign for the duration of the NWSL Fall Series, the club announced Thursday. Nelson previously spent time with the OL Reign after signing with the club in June for the NWSL Challenge Cup.

OL Reign begins the 2020 NWSL Fall Series against rivals Portland Thorns FC on Saturday, 12:30 p.m. PT. The match will be televised nationally on CBS.

The Ute goalkeeper from Lindon, Utah was a United Soccer Coaches All-Pacific Region selection in 2019 after leading the Pac-12 with 10 shutouts (13th nationally), 101 saves (24th nationally), and 1895:43 minutes played (eighth nationally). She also ranked second in the conference with an .808 save percentage and earned All-Pac-12 honors.

Nelson became the first Ute in almost two decades to top 100 stops in a single season. She amassed 23 shutouts for her career, ranking third in Utah history, and set the single-season record for clean sheets kept by a Ute goalkeeper.
