Pro Bears Week 9
BERKELEY – Aaron Rodgers highlighted performances by former Cal football student-athletes who finished their collegiate careers with the Golden Bears during Week 9 of the NFL season by completing 25-of-31 passes for 305 yards with a season-high-tying four touchdowns and no interceptions for a 147.2 passer rating in a 34-17 road win at San Francisco on Thursday Night Football.
Rodgers is one of eight former Cal players on active 53-man rosters of teams currently holding playoff spots through the first nine weeks of the 2020 NFL season with the list also including Tyson Alualu (Pittsburgh), Jared Goff (Los Angeles Rams), Cameron Jordan (New Orleans), Patrick Laird (Miami), Patrick Mekari (Baltimore), Richard Rodgers (Philadelphia) and Mitchell Schwartz (Kansas City). Alualu and his 8-0 Steelers are the only remaining unbeaten team in the NFL.
Five other former Cal players are associated with teams currently holding NFL playoff spots including DeSean Jackson (Philadelphia, injured reserve), Mychal Kendricks (Seattle, practice squad), Khalfani Muhammad (Arizona, practice squad), Evan Weaver (Arizona, practice squad) and Davis Webb (Buffalo, practice squad).
Keenan Allen had another strong game in Week 9 with nine receptions for 103 yards with one touchdown in the Los Angeles Chargers' 31-26 loss at Las Vegas. The nine receptions moved Allen into a tie with Charlie Joiner for second place on the Chargers' all-time receptions list with 586.
Marvin Jones was the other former Cal player with a Week 9 touchdown on a 15-yard scoring reception in Detroit's 34-20 loss at Minnesota. Jones has three touchdown catches in Detroit's last two games.
