Cougar Swimming Returns to Competition

PULLMAN, Wash. (Nov. 12, 2020) – Washington State Women's Swimming will open its 2020-21 season with a road matchup against the University of Idaho Friday, Nov. 20, head coach Matt Leach announced Thursday.
 
Earlier this week the Pac-12 Conference approved women's swimming programs return to swimming competition. The Cougars return eight swimmers who earned trips to the postseason CSCAA Championships last season. A full schedule will be announced at a later date.
 
"Monday marked an exciting day for WSU Swimming as we prepare for our regular season dual meet schedule. There have been a lot of outstanding people that have allowed this to happen including our amazing student-athletes that work tirelessly in the sport they love along with our administration and Pac-12 conference to place safety as our top priority," Leach said. "President Schultz, our Director of Athletics Pat Chun and our Deputy Director of Athletics/COO Bryan Blair have provided great leadership during the pandemic and found ways to help our student-athletes grow and achieve in the classroom and the pool during these difficult times. 
 
"Our Deputy Director of Athletics/SWA Anne McCoy has been instrumental in advocating for Swimming and Diving to move forward with its season in a safe and regulated manner," Leach continued. "Thank you to our fans for your tremendous dedication and we will continue to represent this great university and the Pac-12 Conference in every faucet of our lives. Go Cougs!"
 
Washington State Athletics will continue to abide by all health and safety policies and protocols that follow campus, Pac-12 Conference, NCAA, local, state and federal guidelines, as well as national best practices.
 
"The health, safety, and wellbeing of our student-athletes, coaches and staff are at the heart of every decision we've made as an institution and conference for the return of our swimming activities," Blair said. "I'm ecstatic for our young ladies that we now are approved to move forward with our season."
