Cal Heads To Corvallis For Matchup With Oregon State

BERKELEY - Cal will head out on the road to take on Oregon State on Saturday afternoon. The Bears will kickoff at 12:30 p.m. from Reser Stadium in Corvallis with the game broadcast on FS1 and KGO Radio (810 AM). After playing this past Sunday on two day's notice, Cal will now play Oregon State with one less day of preparation this coming weekend. 

CAL HEADS TO CORVALLIS ON SHORT WEEK
- Cal opened the 2020 season vs. UCLA at the Rose Bowl this past Sunday. It was the fifth time Cal has played on a Sunday, but the first since 1926. 
- Coming off a Sunday contest at UCLA, which the Bears only had two days to prepare for, the Bears head out on the road for a matchup with Oregon State on Saturday. 
- Cal leads the all-time series vs. Oregon State 38-34.
- The Bears have won four of the past six matchups vs. the Beavers and two of the past three matchups between the two schools at Reser Stadium. 
- The Bears' 49-7 victory over OSU in 2018 was the most points Cal has scored and also the fewest points the team has allowed during Justin Wilcox's tenure. 
- Cal has scored 138 combined points in its last three trips to Oregon State (49 in 2018, 44 in 2016 and 45 in 2014).

DEFENSE HAS NEW CONTRIBUTORS IN SEASON OPENER; SCHLEGEL ONLY NEW OFFENSIVE STARTER
- 21 newcomers made their debut for the Bears in the season opener, while four players made their first career starts. 
- With a revamped defense, five student-athletes set career highs in tackles in the season opener: Daniel Scott (11), JH Tevis (10), Evan Tattersall (7), Braxten Croteau (5) and Craig Woodson (4). Scott was making his second start, while Tevis, Tattersall and Woodson made their first career starts. Drew Schlegel was the lone first-time starter on offense. 

SCHEDULING CHANGES NEEDED FOR 2020
- Cal and Washington were scheduled to start the season on November 7, alongside the rest of the Pac-12. However, the game was not played as scheduled and was declared a no contest because of the results of one positive COVID-19 test at Cal and subsequent contact tracing.
- Cal was scheduled to play Arizona State on Nov. 14, the game was canceled at 9 a.m. on Friday due to positive COVID-19 tests within ASU's team, at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, the Pac-12 announced that Cal would travel to UCLA for the Bears rescheduled season opener and UCLA's second game. 
- The UCLA game was the fifth season opener on Cal's schedule this year (8/31 at UNLV, 9/26 at Oregon State, 11/7 vs. Washington, 11/14 at Arizona State and 11/15 at UCLA) 
- Cal was the second-to-last FBS team to begin the 2020 fall season (Utah is the only team to begin later). Cal, Utah and Arizona State are the only three FBS teams who have not played a home game during the 2020 season. All three have had a home game canceled due to COVID-19 outbreaks.
- Cal will play two straight road conference games to open the year, the first time that has happened since 2011, when Cal lost to both Washington and Oregon on the road to open its conference slate.

OREGON STATE CONNECTIONS 
- Cal leads the all-time series vs. Oregon State 38-34.
- The Bears have won four of the past six matchups vs. the Beavers and two of the past three matchups between the two schools at Reser Stadium. 
- The Bears' victory, 49-7, over OSU in 2018 was the most points Cal has scored and also the fewest points the team has allowed during Justin Wilcox's tenure. 
- Cal's coaching staff has some connection to the state of Oregon, head coach Justin Wilcox played safety and cornerback at Oregon (1996-99). In 1999, he was named second-team All-Pac-10 and earned Pac-10 All-Academic honors.
- Justin Wilcox and OSU Coach Jonathan Smith played against each other in the 1999 civil war between Oregon and Oregon State, which Wilcox and the Ducks won 25-14. 
- Cal defensive coordinator Peter Sirmon played at Oregon (1996-99) and was a first-team All-Pac-10 selection as a senior for the Ducks. 
- Cal offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave played collegiately at Oregon (1986-90), where he finished his career as the school's all-time leader in passing and total offense, while establishing 15 school records. Musgrave was inducted into the University of Oregon Hall of Fame in 2000.
- Musgrave's nephew, Luke Musgrave, is a sophomore tight end at OSU. 
- Cal running backs coach Aristotle Thompson is from Portland, Oregon and was the Gatorade Oregon High School Player of the Year in 1995.
- Cal offensive line coach Angus McClure started coaching at UCLA in 2007, Michael Pitre's (Oregon State's running back coach/recruiting coordinator) final year as a player with the Bruins.
