Feature Friday Series: Maddie Reed
For this week's Feature Friday, we chat with freshman Maddie Reed from Highlands Ranch, Colo.
Reed attended Mountain Vista High School and was a two-time first-team all-state recipient in track as well as recipient of the STEM award.
During her high school career, she was a four-year letter winner in both cross country and track & field. She placed 10th at the 5A State Cross Country Championships, following up with a PR and a 16th- place finish at the NXR Southwest Regional Championships. Reed also recorded personal bests at the CHSAA State Track and Field Championships where she placed sixth in the 1600m and fourth in the 3200m her junior year.
Reed was raised in an athletic family, with parents Chris and Carrie Reed and sisters Morgan and Mia. Her father Chris is her main athletic inspiration, having ran cross country during his collegiate years and helped develop her interest in running. Though Reed faced many setbacks throughout her years as an athlete, such as injuries and illnesses, she emphasizes the importance of perseverance and the growth she has gained because of facing these difficulties. She is looking forward to exploring Utah and all it has to offer, spend more time with the team, compete in the upcoming season and succeed academically as well as learn more about herself during her time at the U.
