Soccer Hosts GCU on Sunday Night

Feb 13, 2021

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Sun Devil Soccer returns to the stadium stage against Grand Canyon University in the completion of the home-and-home series on Sunday. Earlier in the week, Arizona State defeated GCU in a comeback overtime thriller to protect ASU's undefeated record.

ASU (3-0-0) faces GCU (0-3-0) on Sunday, February 14 at 7:00 p.m. MST at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe. The event is closed to fans per Pac-12 Conference guidelines due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thursday's score didn't show the offensive pressure the Sun Devils pushed on the Lopes. ASU out-shot GCU 29-4 despite the score being tied at 2-2 after 90 minutes. Senior Olive Jones and junior Vildan Kardesler led the charge, each sending more than five shots. Kardesler came up big to keep ASU in contention, scoring the equalizer in the 75th minute.

Jones notched four shots on goal and earned her first goal of the season. ASU broke the tie in overtime with a golden goal from Olivia Nguyen - her second of the season.

Goalkeeper Giulia Cascapera was asked to only make two saves thanks to ASU's defensive success.
