Track & Field Wraps Up Husky Classic

SEATTLE – The Washington State University Track and Field program concluded competition at the Husky Classic Saturday afternoon, where the Cougars once again came away successful overall from the Dempsey Indoor this season. 
 
Colton Johnsen continued his dominate ways this indoor season, taking home the victory in the 3000 with a personal best of 7:53.18. Johnsen posted the 10th best time in the nation Friday evening, and is now the only male distance runner in the top 12 in the nation in all three distance races. Mitch Jacobson earned himself a win in the high jump with a mark of 6-feet 9 1/2 inches (2.07m), and Joseph Heitman turned in another victory for the Cougars in the long jump with a mark of 21-feet 10 3/4 inches (6.67m) as well. The men's distance crew continued to impress during day two, as the WSU squad of Zach Stallings, Justin Janke, Ethan Willems, and Johnsen ran the third best time in Cougar history in the event at 9:36.57. The time in the DMR is also tied for 13th best in the nation currently as well. 

The Washington State women secured a pair of victories during day one at the Husky Classic, first with Anna Rodgers in the long jump at 19-feet 3 1/4 inches (5.87m). Aislinn Overby posted a win in the high jump as well for WSU, recording a personal best on the day at 5-feet 8 1/2 inches (1.74m). Peyton Teevens made her mark for the Cougars in her pentathlon debut, as she went on to record 3,459 total points, 10th best all-time in WSU history in the event. Teevens would also record personal bests in all five events as well. The Cougars picked up another win during day two as Elise Unruh-Thomas placed first in the 60-meter dash with a personal best of 7.67.

Washington State Track and Field will now look ahead to the NCAA Indoor Championships in a few weeks with day one beginning Thursday, March 11. The Championships will be held at Fayetteville, Ark. and hosted by the University of Arkansas inside Randal Tyson Indoor Track as well.
