Men's Basketball Welcomes in Oregon State

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men's basketball team looks to build upon its win over then #19/18 USC as it welcomes in Oregon State for an 8 p.m. (MT) tip-off this Wednesday, March 3, inside the Jon M. Huntsman center on ESPNU.
 
Roxy Bernstein will have the call Wednesday evening as Utah looks to even up the season series against the Beavers while NBA veteran Adrian Branch serves as the analyst.
 
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
After sweeping the Bay Area teams last weekend, Wayne Tinkle and company look to continue their road success when they take the floor in the Jon M. Huntsman Center versus Utah. The Beavers are 13-11 overall on the year and 9-9 in Pac-12 action.
 
When the Utes and Beavers last squared off in Corvallis, Ethan Thompson went off for 25 points, five rebounds, eight assists, four steals and two blocks. Meanwhile Warith Alatishe had 19 points, nine rebounds, four assists, three steals and four points. Jarod Lucas, also chipped in with 10 points.
 
Thompson leads the team averaging 15.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists whiles also leading the team with 805:45 minutes. Lucas is second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.7 points and 2.1 rebounds to go with a .385 (52-of-135) shooting clip from 3-point range. Big man Alatishe is nearly averaging a double-double for OSU, posting 9.2 points per game with 8.4 rebounds per game to go with a team-best 38 blocks while his 28 steals is just short of the lead held by Thompson. Zach Reichle can also be a threat for the Beavers, averaging 7.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists.
 
In the last five games, Thompson is averaging 17.2 points while Lucas and Alatishe are averaging 13.2 points and 10.8 points, respectively. Roman Silva has been more active for Oregon State lately posting 7.8 points and 4.4 rebounds while Rodrigue Andela is averaging 6.4 points and 3.6 rebounds.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Utes had a glimpse of what a healthy full team looked like as they tripped up then No. 19 USC last Saturday, 71-61, as the Trojans went home to Los Angeles getting swept on the mountain trip. Alfonso Plummer had 19 points for Utah to lead the team. Timmy Allen added 15 points with three rebounds and eight assists while Ian Martinez had 10 points in the win.
 
Utah got off to a quick 4-0 lead but USC answered with a 14-2 run before the Utes were able to get back on track and tied things up at 25-25. After some exchange of buckets, Utah headed into the locker room down 29-27.

 
The Utes turned the tide in the second half and jump out with an 8-0 run that put them on top 35-29. From there Utah never looked back as it shot .586 from the field and 7-of-9 from 3-point range. Allen and Plummer each had 11 points in the second frame.
 
UP NEXT
Utah will wrap up the regular-season this Saturday, March 6, as it welcomes in Arizona State after the two programs have had multiple postponements and rescheduling. Tip-off is set for Noon (MT) on FS1 to wrap up things up before heading to the conference tournament.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
With the Pac-12 Tournament (March 10-13) just a week away, teams are jockeying for position heading into the final week of action.
