Whitworth Essential Results | USC Invitational Results

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Washington State University Track and Field program kicked off the 2021 outdoor season Friday with Cougars in action at both the Whitworth Essential Invite and the USC Invitational. 

The WSU women at the Whitworth Essential were led by Maelyn George who took home first place in the javelin with a mark of 141-feet 2 inches (43.03m). The Cougs saw solid days from Elena Willems in the 800-meter, finishing second overall with a time of 2:17.38, and Julia Parra in the discus with a throw of 129-feet 2 inches (39.37m) for second place as well. Two Cougars were in action at the USC Invitational to begin the meet, as Carolina Ulloa-Daza and Sasha Korolenko competed in the hammer throw. Ulloa-Daza posted an impressive Washington State debut finishing second, with a throw of 191-feet 3 inches (58.30m), which is a WSU freshman record in the event, and is fifth best all-time in Cougar history as well. Korolenko went on to finish fourth overall with a solid mark of 172-feet 9 inches (52.67m). 

The men's squad saw multiple second place finishers throughout the meet, beginning with Joey Jensen in the discus with a mark of 158-feet 11 inches (48.44m). Marty Munyon posted a second place finish in the hammer throw with a mark 163-feet 9 inches (49.92m), and Joseph Heitman turned in a second place finish as well in the long jump at 21-feet 10 3/4 inches (6.67m). In the high jump the Cougs posted a three-way tie for second place as Colby White, Max English and Daylon Hicks finished at 6-feet 6 inches (1.98m).
