Buffs Add to Roster for Fall

Apr 5, 2021

BOULDER—Head coach Danny Sanchez announced the addition of Hailey Stodden and Isabella Grust for the start of the fall 2021 soccer season on Monday.

Stodden, a 2018 Broomfield High School graduate, returns to her home state having spent her first two years of eligibility at Utah. The 5-6 defender/midfielder was highly decorated coming out of high school. She was the No. 9 forward in the country, according to Top Drawer Soccer. Stodden was BoCoPreps, Front Range League, 5A and Gatorade State Player of the Year. She was also NSCAA All-State and was selected to participate with the U18 USWNT. Stodden was selected to the 2018 USA Today/American Family All-USA First team to go along with United Soccer Coaches and Top Drawer Soccer All-America selections.

Stodden scored 32 goals and handed out 10 assists in her senior year at BHS, finishing her high school career with 87 goals and 35 assists. She played her club soccer with Colorado Rush.

Stodden earned Pac-12 All-Freshman honors in 2018, after starting every game for the Utes. Her first collegiate goal was the game-winner against the Buffs. She also assisted on the Utes' game-winning goal against Arizona State, collecting her first collegiate point.

As a sophomore, she started all 21 matches, picking up three assists in 2019. Stodden had 23 shots and played every minute in three of Utah's matches.

Grust, a Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., native, will join the Buffs after she graduates from Torrey Pines High School in the spring. The 5-9 goalkeeper has been playing with the San Diego Surf of the ECNL. She won the 2019 Girls U18/19 DA Golden Glove Award and helped her team to the DA National Championship game in 2019 (with future Buff teammates Jade Babcock-Chi and Shyra James). Grust was a part of the U15 USWGT player list and was part of the 2017/18 USWYNT hub.

Grust is currently ranked the No. 7 keeper in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer and is #73 in the IMG Academy 150.

Stodden and Grust add to a class that includes Ellen Jones (Glamorgan, UK), Hannah Duguid (Calgary, Alberta), Holly Hunter (Temecula, Calif.) and Phoenix Miranda (Honolulu, Hawaii).

The Buffaloes close out the 2021 spring season, playing their final three games at Prentup Field. The sprint to the finish starts on Friday with Arizona (2:30 p.m. MT).
