Walker earns national weekly honor

Apr 5, 2021

EUGENE – Collegiate Baseball has named Brett Walker one of its national players of the week after the Oregon right-handed pitcher led the Ducks to 6-1 win in the series finale against New Mexico State on Saturday.

Walker, who was a NCBWA Preseason All-America selection, picked up the win in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday helping Oregon secure a four-game sweep of the Aggies. Walker struck out a career-high 13 batters in six innings in the win, allowing no runs on just two hits with three walks.

Walker entered Saturday game with just 15 strikeouts in his first five starts of the season, including a then career-high five punch-outs last Sunday in a win over Arizona.

Walker is the second Duck to be honored by Collegiate Baseball this season. He joins Kenyon Yovan who swept national honors in early March, after a big series in a sweep at UC Santa Barbara. Yovan is also the last Ducks' pitcher to earn weekly recognition from Collegiate Baseball when he claimed the honor on April 30, 2018.
