No. 4 UCLA took one step closer to a Pac-12 title, defeating California 3-1 on Friday afternoon to improve to 11-1-1 overall and 8-1-0 in Pac-12 play.

Once again, the Bruins got on the board early, taking less than four minutes to score against the Golden Bears (5-5-1, 3-5-1). After Mia Fishel's shot was stopped by California goalkeeper Angelina Anderson for a corner kick, Marley Canales took matters into her own hands, scoring an Olimpico goal directly off the corner at 3:44. The goal was Canales' fourth of the season.

The Bruins made it 2-0 late in the first half, in the 41st minute, on an open net goal by Fishel, her sixth of the campaign.

Reilyn Turner increased UCLA's lead in the 72nd minute, taking a pass from Aislynn Crowder and getting in front of the Cal defense. Turner found herself 1v1 with Anderson and slotted her shot past her for her team-leading eighth goal of the year.

Cal got on the board in the 77th minute on a banger by Keely Roy. Down just two, the Bears increased their efforts in hopes of trying to get back into the game and nearly scored another goal three minutes later on a shot by Julia Curtis that went just over the crossbar. Curtis got another good look in from the top of the box in the 83rd minute but shot high, and the Bruins held on for the two-goal win.

With two games remaining in the regular season, the Bruins will have an opportunity to win the Pac-12 title on Sunday, Apr. 11 with a win at Stanford. The game will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks at 2pm.
