No. 19 USC Women's Soccer Plays to 2-2 Draw With No. 3 UCLA

Apr 16, 2021

LOS ANGELES – The No. 19 USC women's soccer team played to another 2-2 draw with No. 3 UCLA on Friday afternoon in the Coliseum to close the regular season.

The Trojans and Bruins also played to a 2-2 draw in a non-conference contest in Westwood back on March 18. The tie moves USC's overall record to 7-3-3 and Pac-12 mark to 6-3-2. UCLA closes the regular season at 12-1-2, 9-1-1.

USC jumped ahead early, getting a strike from Penelope Hocking in the 11th minute. USC had several chances in the first 10 minutes of the game as they controlled the action early. The Trojans then took a 2-0 lead early in the second half, when Tara McKeown scored on a header in the 47th minute.

The Bruins would move the momentum their way in the 56th minute, when Delanie Sheehan found the back of the net. The equalizer came in the 88th minute, with Olivia Athens heading it home.

Neither team was able to find an edge in the two overtimes, with each team taking five shots in the two extra periods. USC was without Hocking, Croix Bethune and Jaelyn Eisenhart in overtime, as all three had yellow cards and were at risk of missing a postseason opener if they received a second.
