USC Rowing Defeats UCLA in Second Dual of 2021 Season
LOS ANGELES--The USC women's rowing team defeated the UCLA Bruins in their second dual of the 2021 season today (May 1) at the Port of Los Angeles. The Trojans and the Bruins also raced the Stanford Cardinal.
"It has been quite a ride through the regular season," said head coach Josh Adam. "Racing Stanford and UCLA today was a great way to finish our regular season schedule. Being able to fight back from the early season dual loss against UCLA was awesome. I am so happy for our four seniors that they could close out their careers with a UCLA dual win. Now, we get to take another step forward as we prepare for the Pac-12 Championships because each team will get faster as we head into post-season racing.

The dual between USC and UCLA was scored with the following system: the Varsity 8 race was worth three points, the Second Varsity 8 race was two points, the Varsity 4 was one point and the Third Varsity Eight was half a point.
The conditions in the Port of Los Angeles were slow. There were floating starts, no buoy lines and variable wind. There were 5-8 mpg headwinds and a subtle current from the LA River which negatively pushed against the boats, but an incoming tide positively pushed the boats.
The morning opened with the Varsity 8+ where Stanford finished first with a 6:29.00 time, but USC claimed a 6:42.00 time ahead of the Bruins by one second to earn three points.
The Bruins put two points on the board as the Second Varsity 8+ clocked a time of 7:03.00, 21 seconds ahead of USC. Stanford finished with a time of 6:44.00.
In the Varsity 4+ race, the Women of Troy recorded a 7:50.00 time, eight seconds ahead of UCLA to earn another point. The Cardinal marked a 7:33.00 time.
USC conceded half a point to UCLA as they did not enter a Third Varsity 8+ boat.
The Women of Troy now turn their attention to preparing for the Pac-12 Championships om May 16 in Gold River, Calif.
