Oregon Walks Off with Game 1 Win

May 7, 2021

EUGENE, Ore. -- Hanah Bowen took a perfect game into the the bottom of the seventh, but 12th-ranked Oregon walked off with a 2-1 victory on a two-run Terra McGowan home run, Oregon's second hit of the night.

Bowen was masterful in the game, retiring the first 18 Ducks she saw, seven via the strikeout. A leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh ended the perfect-game bid, and then after a sacrifice bunt for the first out of the inning, McGowan homered to left to end the game. Bowen dropped to 7-2 on the season with the loss.

Offensively, the Wildcats struggled to get anything going against Oregon pitcher Brooke Yanez. Bowen and Yanez traded zeros on the scoreboard the first five innings, allowing just one total hit -- a Dejah Mulipola third-inning single -- combined.

Arizona broke the scoreless tie in the top of the sixth when Hannah Martinez hit her fourth home run of the season, a solo shot to center.

Oregon scored two in the seventh to win the game.

Arizona fell to 33-9, 11-6 while Oregon improved to 32-13, 10-9. The teams meet again on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. MST.
