Ducks in the Hunt for Top-5 Spot at Regionals

CLE ELUM, Wash. – Oregon remained within striking distance of the top five heading into the final round of the NCAA Cle Elum Regional after shooting 9 over to move to ninth place after round two at the Tumble Creek Club.
 
The Ducks go into the final 18 holes seven shots out of fifth place at 7 over for the tournament, needing to finish in the top five to move on to the NCAA Championships. Tom Gueant continues to lead the way for Oregon, sitting in a tie for seventh individually at 2 under.
 
How It Happened: Craig Ronne turned in the low round of the day for the Ducks, shooting a 1-under 70. He opened his round with a birdie at the par-4 10th hole but gave a shot back with a bogey at 13. After four straight pars he birdied the par-4 18th to make the turn at 1 under, but bogeyed the par-4 opening hole to start the front nine. Ronne got to 2 under with birdies at five and seven but bogeyed the eighth to drop back to 1 under.
 
Gueant remained in the top 10 individually by shooting a 1-over 72. He turned in an up-and-down back nine to start his round, making birdies at the par-5 14th and 15th holes to get to 1 under before dropping shots at 16 and 18 to make the turn at 1 over. Gueant made nine pars on the front nine to end the day 1 over.
 
Owen Avrit shot a 4-over 75 and Yuki Moriyama turned in a 5-over 76 to finish as the other two counting scores for the Ducks.
