Huskies Set Program Record With 49 Prelim Entries

May 20, 2021

SEATTLE – For the second straight season, Washington has set a program record for most NCAA West Preliminary Championship entries. The Huskies will have forty-nine entries for the meet, which will be hosted by Texas A&M in College Station, Texas from May 26-29. The West Prelims are the path through which athletes reach the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June.

When the meet was last held, in 2019, Washington qualified 45 entries to shatter the program's previous best, which was 38 entries from 2013. This year the Huskies surpassed the 2019 squad by four.

Forty-two athletes will make up the 49 entries, as seven Huskies qualified in two individual events.

The top-48 athletes from the western half of the country, in every individual event, and top-24 relays, will compete over one or two rounds in College Station to try and finish in the top-12. Those that place in the top-12 continue on to the NCAA Outdoor final site in Eugene, Ore. from June 9-12.

In addition to the West Prelim qualifiers, the multi-event qualifiers were announced, as the top-24 nationally go straight through to Eugene. Lyndsey Lopes, the Pac-12 heptathlon champion, and third-place finisher Ida Eikeng will both be in the NCAA Outdoor heptathlon field, though both will also compete in open events at West Prelims.
