Academic Services Announces May Student-Athletes of the Month

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State track and field's Ja'Maun Charles and rowing's Sue Yu have been named the Academic Services Student-Athletes of the Month for May 2021.

A senior sprinter and longer jumper on the WSU track and field team, Charles has shown his success throughout his career at Washington State both on and off the track. Currently, Charles has a grade point average of 3.49, as he looks to finish up his Master's in Business Administration (MBA) this summer. The Pleasanton, California native recently qualified for the NCAA West Preliminaries in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash, which will take place this week in College Station, Texas. Charles will look to qualify for the NCAA Championships in June. He has been involved in Coug Pals, served as a tutor for athletics in math and business courses, was a PAC counselor and is a SAAC representative.

Yu is a senior on the WSU rowing team, where she recently helped the program earn its 13th at-large bid into the NCAA Rowing Championship, which takes place this weekend in Sarasota, Florida. Yu, a neuroscience major, currently holds a 3.51 GPA. She has been a member of multiple the Pac-12 All-Academic Team, along with being a PAC counselor and athletic tutor. She recently helped the Washington State rowing team pick up a fifth-place finish at the 2021 Pac-12 Rowing Championship.

Each month Washington State Academic Services honors a male and female student-athlete that demonstrates commitment to academics while participating in their sport.
