Eight to Nationals

May 29, 2021

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Julia Heymach doubled down on her conference title performance by winning two races at the West Prelims to advance to her first NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Heymach set a personal best in the 1,500 meters, and ran the fastest time of the day and reached No. 4 in Stanford history, with her 4:09.89. She followed three hours later by winning the 5,000, the same event she won at the Pac-12 Championships. Heymach clocked 15:55.72.

Alexa Rossum also will double in Eugene. Rossum qualified seventh overall in the 200 and 10th in the 100. Her 200 time of 22.96 broke her two-day-old personal best and lifted her past Olympian Chryste Gaines and into second on Stanford's all-time performer's list.

Stanford will send nine individual and 13 entries into the NCAA Championships June 9-12 in Eugene, Oregon.

Those advancing in two events are Heymach, Rossum, Ella Donaghu (women's 1,500 and 5,000) and Charles Hicks (men's 5,000 and 10,000).

First-time qualifiers are Heymach, Rossum, Hicks, Allie Jones (heptathlon), and true freshman Ky Robinson (men's steeplechase).

Robinson broke his own Stanford freshman record, running 8:40.45 to move up a spot to No. 7 all-time at Stanford.
