LOS ANGELES – UCLA head diving coach Tom Stebbins on Wednesday announced that British national team diver, European Champion, and Tokyo Olympics-bound Eden Cheng has signed a National Letter of Intent with UCLA.
A London, England native, Cheng's decorated international career reached a new high this spring as she secured qualification to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo with a silver medal finish in 10-meter synchronized diving at the 2021 FINA World Cup (also held in Tokyo) in early May.
She followed that up with a second silver medal in international competition on May 14, as she and partner Lois Toulson secured a runner-up finish at the 2021 European Diving Championships in Budapest.
A member of the Crystal Palace Diving club, Cheng has been a standout at both the domestic and international stages since making her senior debut in 2017.
She's medaled seven times on the international level for Great Britain, including a gold-medal finish in 10M synchro at the 2018 European Championships in Edinburgh, Scotland. Cheng went on to make her senior World Championships debut a year later in 2019, securing a pair of top-six finishes.
Domestically, she's medaled at each of the last two British Championships, highlighted by a 10M synchro gold medal in 2020.
Cheng will take the fall off to recharge following the Tokyo Olympics, and is scheduled to arrive at UCLA in 2022.
