Athens, Brzykcy Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

Jun 3, 2021

UCLA midfielder Olivia Athens and goalkeeper Lauren Brzykcy have been selected to the 2020-21 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer First Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Athens, a senior economics major from Atherton, Calif., has compiled a 3.48 grade point average and has been selected to the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll three times and to the UCLA Director's Honor Roll 10 times in her career. A 16-game starter in 2020-21, she helped lead UCLA to its first Pac-12 title since 2014 and to a 13-1-3 overall record. She scored three goals, including tying goals in the final three minutes of regulation to force overtime at USC and against Clemson in the NCAA Round of 16. Athens has a history of clutch goals, as she also scored the game-winning goal in double overtime at USC in 2018.

Brzykcy, a redshirt junior sociology major from San Clemente, Calif., holds a 3.49 cumulative grade point average and was named a United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American. She has won a multitude of awards in her first full-time season as the Bruins' starting goalkeeper, including third-team All-American, Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year, first-team All-Region and first-team All-Pac-12. Brzykcy posted a 0.73 goals against average and recorded seven shutouts while playing every minute of all 17 games. She led the Bruins to 13 victories and the Pac-12 title.

The Bruin duo will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot.
