USC's Penelope Hocking Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District Recognition

Jun 3, 2021

LOS ANGELES – The CoSIDA Academic All-District teams were announced on Thursday and USC's Penelope Hocking was named to the District 8 second team.

Hocking, who has already been heavily decorated for her play on the field this year, garnered the academic recognition after posting a 3.44 GPA as a computer science major. It is the second year in a row that Hocking has been named to the Academic All-District team and comes after she earned recognition on the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll earlier this year.

To earn the academic honor, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution. Nominated student-athletes are voted on by CoSIDA members in order to earn a spot on the All-District teams.

Hocking has been raking in the awards this season, having already been named a First-Team All-American and the Pac-12 Forward of the Year, along with being a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy. The junior striker is well on her way to becoming USC's all-time leading scorer, sitting second on the Trojan scoring list with 42 career goals. She scored 10 goals and notched three assists this season, leading USC to a second-place finish in the Pac-12 and the program's seventh straight postseason appearance.
