Wildcats Close Out Day One of U.S. Olympic Trials

EUGENE, Ore. – Four Wildcats competed in the opening day of the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore. on Friday where both Israel Oloyede and Jordan Geist advanced to the finals in their respective events.

Jordan Geist threw for 19.72m (64-8.5) in the shot put qualifying round to advance to the final where he threw a season-best mark of 20.80m (68-3) to finish seventh overall. He was one of only two collegians to finish in the top 10.

Israel Oloyede punched his ticket to the final round of the hammer throw with a qualifying mark of 70.46m (231-2). He will compete again on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. MST.

Johnnie Blockburger put a cap on his historic freshman 400m campaign, clocking a time of 46.75 in the first round.

Lillian Lowe closed out her season as well in the women's high jump, clearing a mark of 1.77m (5-9.75).
