Bear Duo On New Zealand Olympic Team

Jun 29, 2021

NEW ZEALAND - Cal women's soccer alumnae Daisy Cleverley and Betsy Hassett are the latest Golden Bears set to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The New Zealand Olympic Committee revealed the women's soccer Olympic roster last week with Hassett and Cleverley listed as midfielders for the Football Ferns.

Cleverley played for Cal from 2017-2019 where she collected All-Conference honors during her sophomore and junior seasons. Upon graduating from Cal, she used her final year of eligibility at Georgetown where she earned All-Big-East and All-Region accolades. Cleverly made her first appearance with the New Zealand national team in 2014 and scored two goals in eight caps with the Ferns. This will be Cleverley's first Olympic roster appearance. Cleverley was previously named as a traveling reserve for the Ferns' 2016 Rio Olympic squad.

Hassett was an impactful player for the Bears' midfield from 2009-2012 and earned All-Conference recognition in three of four seasons at Cal. Hassett made her first appearance with the New Zealand national team in 2008 and has since tallied 13 goals in 113 caps. During her junior season with Cal, Hassett made her first Olympic appearance at the 2012 London Games where she played three matches with two starts for New Zealand. The Tokyo Olympics will mark Hassett's third Olympic berth.
