Trojans Begin Action At The 2020 Tokyo Olympics

The track and field portion of the 2020 Olympics got underway with Rai Benjamin in the men's 400m hurdles and Tynia Gaither in the women's 100m advancing to event semifinals today (July 29).  USC has a school-record 15 athletes set to compete at the Tokyo Games during the next nine days. 

  • Rai Benjamin (USC 2018), one of the favorites in the men's 400m hurdles, won the fifth heat of the event with a time of 48.60 to automatically advance to the semifinal on Aug. 1 at 5:05 a.m PT. His time was fourth among the qualifiers.
  • Tynia Gaither (USC 2016), competing for the Bahamas, took third in her women's 100m heat with a time of 11.34 (-0.1) to automatically advance to the final on July 31 at 3:15 a.m. PT.  Should she advance to the final, it would be at 5:50 a.m. PT the same day.

Among the Trojans in action on the second day of action at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be  Anna Cockrell, Amalie Iuel, Dalilah Muhammad and Gianna Woodruff in the women's 400m hurdles, Isaiah Jewett in the men's 800m and Andre De Grasse in the men's 100m.
