LOS ANGELES – A first-half goal by Reilyn Turner gave No. 5 UCLA a 1-0 exhibition victory over Pepperdine on Thursday night at Wallis Annenberg Stadium.

Playing in front of 1,001 fans in the first UCLA game open at full capacity since 2019-20, the Bruins got all the scoring it needed at 30:09 when Mia Fishel and Maricarmen Reyes connected with Turner on the right side. Turner, who scored a team-leading 11 goals in 2020, picked up where she left off, finishing past Waves goalkeeper Zoe Clevely. Lauren Brzykcy, Hannah Mitchell and Idalia Serrano combined on the shutout, with Brzykcy and Mitchell each making two saves.

The two teams played a bonus 30-minute game after regulation, which UCLA also won by a 1-0 score. Freshman Emma Egizii notched the game's only goal, taking it in unassisted at 2:31. Kelly McManus and Faith Nguyen played 15 minutes each, with McManus recording one save.

The Bruins used the contest to give players significant minutes before the regular season opener on Aug. 19. Twenty-two players saw action in the 90-minute contest, and an additional eight played in the 30-minute game.

UCLA officially begins the 2021 campaign on Thursday, Aug. 19 against UC Irvine at Wallis Annenberg Stadium. The match will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks at 4pm. Tickets are on sale now at uclabruins.com/tickets.
