Beavers Open Season Against Seattle and Fresno State

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's soccer team is set to open its season this week at Lorenz Field with an evening game against Seattle University on Thursday at 7 p.m. followed by a match against Fresno State at noon on Sunday. Tickets will be available for purchase ranging from $4-$6 and live stats will be available. 

Last Season
Due to the COVID19 pandemic, the Oregon State women's soccer team played during the 2020-21 spring semester. The Beavers posted a record of 4-11-1 (2-9-0 Pac-12), opening play with a 3-0 shutout at Idaho on Feb. 5 before upsetting No. 3 Stanford, 2-1, on Feb. 28. OSU notched back-to-back home wins over Colorado, 2-0 on April 2, and Utah, 3-1, April 4.

The Beavs return six of their top starters from last season. Brianna McReynolds led the team in shots on goal with 14 on target and scored four goals on the season, also tallying four assists. Kaillen Fried led the Beavers in assists, notching seven and also scored one of the two goals in OSU's 2-0 home shutout against Colorado on April 2. Madison Ellsworth led the team in minutes played, racking up 1482 minutes and tallying two assists. Bridgette Skiba posted 58 saves on the season with a save percentage of 0.674. Abby Schwartz posted two goals on the season, including the game-winner against Stanford on Feb. 28 in Corvallis. Schwartz also notched four assists. Amber Jackson started all 16 games, recording two assists and seven shots on goal of 11 shots total.  

Last Time Against Seattle 
The Beavers last met with Seattle on Aug. 20, 2017, in Seattle, Wash., defeating the Redhawks 2-1. Natalie Higgins put OSU on the board in the 27th minute, a mere 60-seconds after the Redhawks took an early lead. Emma Jones found the net in the 74th minute, curling in the free kick from 23 yards out. 

Scouting Seattle
Seattle will be opening its season against Oregon State on Thursday. 

Last season the Redhawks went 12-5-2 (10-2-2 WAC) on the pitch, racking up a six-match win-streak that spanned from Feb. 22 - Mar. 11. Seattle closed the regular season with back-to-back wins over New Mexico State on April 1 and April 3 with scores of 3-2 each and a 1-0 overtime win over California Baptist. In the WAC Tournament, the Redhawks edged past Grand Canyon, 3-2, before falling to Utah Valley in the WAC final, 1-0. 

Last Time Against Fresno State
Oregon State shut out Fresno State 3-0 in their last meeting on Aug. 28, 2015 in Corvallis. Mariah Roggow opened scoring for OSU, finding the net at 1:29. At the 17:22 mark, an own goal raised the score to 2-0, in favor of the Beavs. Emma Jones added the game-winner at 35:18 with an assist from Sabrina Santarossa. 

Scouting Fresno State
Fresno State will open its season on Aug. 19 against Oregon in Eugene, Ore. before visiting Corvallis. 

Last season the Bulldogs posted a record of 6-3-1 (6-3-1 Mountain West), opening the season with a three-match win streak from Mar. 6-14, with wins over San Jose State, UNLV, and San Diego State. Fresno State closed out the season with another three-match win streak, notching home wins over Nevada, Boise State, and San Jose State, spanning from April 2-10.
