Maricarmen Reyes and Mia Fishel celebrate Fishel's game-winner against Long Beach State.

LOS ANGELES – A 78th minute header by Mia Fishel broke a scoreless tie, and No. 4 UCLA came away with another victory, 1-0 over a solid Long Beach State squad.

The Bruins outshot the Beach by a 16-2 clip, but Long Beach State found ways to keep the Bruins off the board. Goalkeeper Morgan Houston-Shepherd made three key saves, including a 34th-minute stop on Jayden Perry after she made a nice run into the box. Perry fired a shot to Houston-Shepherd's left, and the Beach 'keeper dove to make the save.

UCLA had another great chance denied by Houston-Shepherd in the 77th minute after Sunshine Fontes was fouled just outside the box while making a fabulous run. Her ensuing free kick was blocked, but she collected the rebound and fired another shot that got through but was stopped by the goalkeeper.

Just one minute later, however, the Bruins made another run and were not going to be denied. Madelyn Desiano started the play with a run down the left side before passing to Michaela Rosenbaum, who then sent a perfect cross to Fishel at the top of the box. Fishel elevated above the defender and headed it in for her third goal in as many games.

UCLA goalkeeper Lauren Brzykcy earned the shutout, her second consecutive and the 13th of her career.

UCLA improves to 3-0 overall, while Long Beach State suffers its first loss of the campaign and drops to 2-1. The Bruins will next play at Loyola Marymount on Sunday, Sept. 5 at 1pm.
