USC Women's Soccer Dominates in 4-0 Win Over CSUN on Senior Day

Sep 19, 2021

LOS ANGELES – Back home for the first time in almost a month, the USC Women's soccer team put on a show at McAlister Field, beating CSUN 4-0 on Senior Day.

The Trojans broke the game open with three goals in a six minute span in the second half, moving to 5-2 on the year to close out non-conference play. The Matadors fall to 1-9 with the loss.

Senior forward Jada Talley got USC on the board first, finishing a cross from fellow senior Penelope Hocking in the 20th minute. USC would outshoot CSUN 13-3 in the first half, but couldn't break through for another goal, taking a 1-0 lead into the break.

It would be Hocking that started the second half scoring run as she blasted a remarkable strike from outside the penalty area to make it 2-0 in the 70th minute. Just over 60 seconds later, Brooklyn Courtnall found Hannah White on the break and White beat the keeper to finish in front of an open net.

Julia Gomez capped the scoring rampage with her first career goal in the 76th minute, hitting the upper right corner after carrying the ball all the way into the area.

The Trojan defense held strong, shutting out their fourth straight opponent on Sunday. CSUN managed just six shots in the game and only three on target, with senior keeper Anna Smith making all the necessary saves. Smith now has four shutouts in goal and has played every minute this season.
