Washington and ASU Draw In Pac-12 Opener

Sep 24, 2021

SEATTLE – The Washington women's soccer team tied Arizona State 2-2, in a wild match at Husky Soccer Stadium on Friday night. In the conference opener the Huskies (2-4-2), went down two goals early but rallied back in the second half to draw with ASU (8-1-1).

After 25 minutes of play, the Huskies were in a quick 2-0 deficit after two goals by Nicole Douglas.

The Dawgs rallied back in a strong way in the second half when Jessika Cowart scored on a free kick nearly from midfield in the 66th minute to reduce the Sun Devil lead to one goal. Cowart's goal was her second of the season.

Then it was Summer Yates with a free kick of her own in the 77th minute, from a few yards outside of the box with a beautiful strike in the back of the net to level up the match at two goals each. The goal by Yates was also her second of the fall campaign.

For the third straight Husky match, 90 minutes wasn't enough. The result was a draw after two overtime periods couldn't decide a winner.

The Huskies will next be in action on the road at Colorado on Thursday, followed by Utah on Sunday.
