Lloyd Named Reese’s Senior Bowl Defensive Player of the Week

Sep 27, 2021

MOBILE, Ala. – University of Utah junior linebacker Devin Lloyd has been named the Reese's Senior Bowl Defensive Player of the Week, announced Monday by the organization.

Lloyd was instrumental all over the field during Saturday's win vs. Washington State, logging eight tackles, a season-high 3.0 tackles for loss, one sack and an interception. The Chula Vista, California, native leads the Pac-12 and is tied for third in all of FBS with 8.0 TFL this season.

The Preseason All-American owns multiple TFL in three of Utah's four games this season, and has recorded at least one in 11 of the Utes' last 12 games. It was the third time in Lloyd's career with three-plus TFL in a game, with the last coming in 2020 vs. Washington State when he had a career-high with four.

Lloyd's interception in the third quarter, initially tipped around in the air, was Lloyd's second this season and third of his career. He is one of two Pac-12 players with multiple interceptions and sacks this season. Lloyd's 45 total tackles and per-game figure (11.3) each lead the Pac-12.

As a team, Utah totaled 13 TFL in the win over the Cougars, the most by the squad since 2018. Eight total sacks by the team were the most in a game since 2016.

Utah returns to game action on Sat., Oct. 9 with a Pac-12 game at USC.
