UCLA celebrates Marley Canales' game-winner in double overtime.

LOS ANGELES - Team captain Marley Canales secured a 2-1 victory for No. 3 UCLA with a golden goal in double overtime against Colorado on Sunday afternoon. The win kept the Bruins unbeaten in 2021 with an 11-0-2 overall record and extended UCLA's unbeaten streak to 20 games.

Playing their fourth overtime game in the last five contests, the Bruins were determined to come out of it with the full three points, and Canales delivered with her game-winner at 106:25. Following a corner kick, Lilly Reale sent the ball back to the far side for Canales, who found Maricarmen Reyes open. Reyes headed it towards goal, and in a battle at the endline between a trio of Bruins and Colorado goalkeeper Dani Hansen, Madelyn Desiano's backheel pass found Canales at the top of the penalty box. Canales one-timed it through traffic and into the back of the net for the game-winner.

Just two minutes prior to Canales' goal, Desiano nearly ended it herself when she ripped a shot off the post.

Colorado had its best chance at a golden goal come at the 95 minute mark when Tessa Barton's header in the box went just high.

UCLA grabbed the 1-0 lead at 27:24 on Kennedy Faulknor's second goal in as many games. Canales set up the goal, sending a ball in to Quincy McMahon on the right. McMahon crossed to Faulknor in front of the goal, and Faulknor hit a left-footed shot past her defender and Hansen.

The Bruins maintained the 1-0 lead until the 74th minute. After shutting down a threat by Shanade Hopcroft on the right side, Hopcroft maintained possession and sent a ball to Kayleigh Webb, who found James unmarked. James turned and fired the ball past Lauren Brzykcy for the equalizer. UCLA came close to grabbing the lead back three minutes later, but Jayden Perry's shot went off the crossbar.

The Bruins outshot Colorado, 17-8. Brzykcy had four saves, while Hansen totaled seven.

UCLA plays just one game next week, at Oregon State on Friday, Oct. 15 at 4pm.
